We moved into a property rented through this real estate that was absolutely below Australian living standards. The house was completely uninhabitable, and we had to terminate the lease because of the condition of the property. They refused to accept responsibility until we finally won the case through the ACAT process after around 8 months. Even after the decision, they still did not return our 2 weeks’ prepaid rent. Their response was that the property owner’s name was on the contract and they had “nothing to do with it.” Fair enough — if that is the case, then tenants are dealing directly with the owner, not with the agency.
